50km Freestyle Great Bear Chase

Skate SkierThe 50 km freestyle is probably the most competitive race at the Great Bear Chase. Many master skiers use this as their last hurrah for the race season. Many racers from nearby college teams use this as a fitting end to their season. It is not unusual to see Rossignal and Subaru ski suits from racers skiing for these factory teams.

The 50 km race makes two loops of the Great Bear Chase race course. Skiiers do not return all the way to the finish line on the first lap, but make the turn at the Swedetown Chalet, approximaely 1 km from the finish line.

After climbing the sledding hill at the Swedetown Chalet (about 1km into the race), the 50 km course is relatively flat, with a downhill trend, for the next 7 km. Skiers will then make a steady uphill for the next 4km. After that, the course features rolling terrain and a downtown finish in Calumet.

The Great Bear Chase features chip timing and results are posted as races finish.

50km Freestyle Age Divisions: 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over
