Smiling Strider50km Freestyle Great Bear Chase

The 50 km freestyle is probably the most competitive race at the Great Bear Chase. Many master skiers use this as their last hurrah for the race season. Many racers from nearby college teams use this as a fitting end to their season. It is not unusual to see Rossignal and Subaru ski suits from racers skiing for these factory teams.

The 50 km race makes two loops of the Great Bear Chase race course. Skiers do not return all the way to the finish line on the first lap, but make the turn at the Swedetown Chalet, approximately 1 km from the finish line.

50 km Freestyle Age Divisions: 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.

50 km Classic Great Bear Chase

Classic skiers want — and deserve — their own 50 km race and the Bear Chase delivers. Since they are first out, the 50 km classic skiers will enjoy fresh tracks as they make the first of their two passes of the Great Bear Chase course.

50 km Classic Age Divisions: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over

26 km Freestyle Great Bear Chase

The 26 km freestyle provides an excellent end-of-season goal for serious racers and mainstream recreational skiers alike. Many master skiers use this as a season-ending endurance test. Recreational skiers enjoy the 26km freestyle because of the relaxed Bear Chase atmosphere and the forgiving course.

26 km Freestyle Age Divisions: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.

26 km Classic Great Bear Chase

The 26 km classic race appeals to those who want the traditional experience of a half-marathon, as well as those who like to "tour" for a morning rather than race in packs with Gu stapled to their bibs. Many master skiers and serious recreational skiers, use the Great Bear Chase 26 km classic as their goal for the season. Other recreational skiers try the 26 km classic to see if they can ski 26 km all at once. Whatever your reason, the Bear Chase 26 km classic is a perfect season-ending goal.

26 km Classic Age Divisions: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.

New! 14 km Freestyle Great Bear Chase

Some skiers prefer a shorter length. Some are intimidated by the half- or full-marathon. Some just want to come out and ski for a couple of hours. Whatever the reason, skiers have asked for a shorter Great Bear Chase and we're delivering in 2012 with a new shorter race and a new 14 km course. You'll have the opportunity to ski most of the course (likely without the descent and climb all the way to the low point of the course). Want to give racing a try? Here's your chance!

14 km Freestyle Age Divisions: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over
